About Us
Route des Alpes is the flagship tour that established Blue Sky Cycle Tours in 2013. Blue Sky is run by Derek “Dextor” Charlton. He has cycled all over the world and enjoys nothing more than combining the discovery of a journey with the thrill of riding a bike. Over the last 10 years he has focused on road cycling in the Alps, a natural theatre of wonders that tests every cyclist to their limits of endurance and bike handling skills.
The vision is to provide personally led worldwide cycle tours that provide the right balance between challenge and enjoyment. Tours are based around no more than 5 hours a day in the saddle with a good break for lunch plus a morning coffee stop.
Mountains to the sea by bike was the inspiration for establishing the company. The magnificent Route des Alpes is the iconic challenge of this type. Celebrate reaching Nice with a cold drink and perhaps a dip in the Mediterranean Sea. The aim is always to arrive at each hotel with sufficient time to unwind, get refreshments maybe even take a massage and phone home before sitting down for a well earned evening meal.
